Many people have questions about whether to have felt on the bottom of their air hockey goalie mallets or not? Most home air hockey tables come with felt bottomed mallets and are used to help protect the playing surface. However, most good players do not like playing with felt bottomed mallets because it slows down their reaction time to the puck. Most commercial air hockey tables are used without felts. So the choice is up to you. We carry air hockey mallets with both unfelted and felted bottoms. We also carry self stick replacement felts that self stick on your old goalie mallets. Another way to decrease wear on the play surface is to use our Wildcat 125 pinball cleaner/wax or silicone spray. Spray some on a clean soft cloth and clean the surface with it. This will decrease friction and wear and increase the speed of the puck.
